SPIN has spun-out

SPIN magazine, November edition, page 39, “Songs You Must Hear Now!”

#9, Shakira - “She Wolf”

Don’t waste your time on it.  For me, that this song was recommended at all makes me very skeptical of ANY song that ever appeared in that column.  Who the hell is making these reviews?…

Ever been hungry, and broke, enough to eat a strawberry preserve…and cheese…sandwich?  They ain’t bad…

Fri Oct 2

I was watching Soul Train…The Jackson 5 were on.  On the show, Jermaine Jackson did “That’s How Love Goes”…I remember listening to that album when being driven to and from Polk Junior High School (in Albuquerque) by my “cousins”.  The recording of the show had audio drop-out in a location I remember:  I must have recorded that performance on a tape recorder when the show originally aired.

I may need to see if I can download Jermaine’s old music…

Catholics attack Penn & Teller

To: Matthew.Blank@showtime.net

I just wanted to send a short note in support of Penn & Teller:
Bullshit!  Their show on “The Vatican” was opinion and comedy based on
facts.

I like the show…even when I disagree with some of their comedy,
opinions, and approaches.

I expect the Daily Show with Jon Stewart will be the next program some
will seek to have discontinued…

Thank you for your time.

George Clinton concert in Tucson

I’ve always loved P-Funk.  I have no joy in posting this…

I received the following in an e-mail message from a friend:

OMG ! Worst ever! It started off great(1/2 hr late) I expected weird but not noisy and boring. By the middle of the concert I was board and he was losing the audience. The stage had the musicians, singers and people hanging around! There were no less than 25 people on stage! It was mad organization.. A 50 + year old man in a diaper and another in fur is not entertainment! His show was repulsiveThe Rialto is a small place and it was packed but that changed quickly. I’m glad I didn’t pay money but nevertheless it was a nice evening out.

Note to designers of notebook computers:  I love the physical “on/off” switch for wi-fi so I can disable it quickly (without needing to power-on the computer to do so)…

Mon Aug 24

Kinda weird:  I just read a post on Facebook from a guy that his father was gagging and throwing-up blood, the poster had called 911, and now needed to clean the house.

It just seems that the poster had more pressing tasks…than to make the post:  I would have expected the post (much) later (after it was clear that the father was OK, and maybe after the house was taken care of).

Martial arts can teach one how to avoid physical confrontations…especially when you know you have the skills to annihilate someone.

Practicing the technique of waiting for the right moment to act can also be used in verbal confrontations.  While people are angry with, and yelling at, me…I’m planning my next move:  who needs to know about the confrontation, watching them to see if it could escalate to a physical battle…and considering which appendage I should break or eye to gouge it if does.

Knowing that you can kill somebody, might keep you from killing somebody…

"All around the world: same song..." (Digital Underground)

I once worked at a radio station that played gospel music and catered to Christians, and those trying to be:  WYCB, Washington (D.C.).  I never preached to my audience, read from the Bible, or prayed on-air; I felt the music I was playing said all that really needed to be.

Some of the most fake people I’ve met in my life were “in the church”, and connected to that radio station…management, and one talkshow host in particular.  So, it doesn’t surprise me the way Scott Wilder was dismissed.  If you trust someone, they trust you, and you both are trying to be the best humans you can be…why would you not tell them with advance warning that they will need to begin to look for other work, and not allow them to say “goodbye” on-air?  I’ve never understood that.  I’ve been laid-off and fired by those who I thought knew very well the type of person I am.  I’m aware some employees have done negative things before they left, and after, and that may have caused an employer/supervisor to try to protect themselves.  But when one has done things to show and prove that they are trustworthy, and the employer dismisses recognition of that…before the employee…it shows a great lack of respect (for ANYONE) on the part of the employer.

Somebody, stop the cycle…

Fri Aug 7

I’ve just learned how prejudice I can be:  a television news story began with, “A priest has been arrested…” I expected it to be about child abuse.  It wasn’t.  (Per a story in the Arizona Daily Star, “A 72-year-old Franciscan priest and a 54-year-old Quaker have been arrested near the Mexican border after they refused to stop praying at a construction site of one of the Department of Homeland Security’s virtual-fence towers…”)

However, noticing the story about Denis Lyons (a priest of the Diocese of Orange in California) was par for the course.

Wed Aug 5

I’m watching Harold Lloyd in “The Freshman”…the scene where he is told to take off his jersey, and give it to a player:  that happened to me (I was playing football in West Germany)…and then, the adults sitting behind me making fun of me…
